Yesterday, we posted a blog about story books. There was a typo with one letter. Sorry! It was a honest mistake.
We read many story books each week. We have started to read the "Pigeon" books by Mo Willems this week. Today we read ... We have many interesting discussions while reading books. In this book, the duckling asks the pigeon what hotdogs taste like. Here are some answers from our students.
Ethan - pepperoni sticks David - egg sandwiches Riley - ketchup Alex - like hotdogs Charlotte - pepperoni and cheese Annabelle - yummy stuff The students giggled when the pigeon gave his answer. The pigeon said "Well, they are a taste sensation. Each morsel is a joy! A celebration in a bun!" The kindergartens had lots of fun during literacy day. The students loved showing everyone their pajamas. There was a huge discussion in the cubby area. We started the day reading..... At the end of the book there was a special message for the students to come and find the Gingerbread Baby. The students followed the messages around the school until the last message lead back to our classroom. We didn't catch the Gingerbread Baby but the Gingerbread Baby left a special treat for each student. Yummy! After our walk around the school, the students ate their lollipops while completing this special activity. Here are a few examples. Thanks Mrs. Sinkic for taking this picture!
Tomorrow is Literacy Day and Hyde Park is celebrating. The students get to wear their pajamas again. The students will be going to a different classroom to hear another staff member (including Mr. Dorsey & Mrs. Whitley) read a story or two.
The students and kindergarten staff had so much fun holding the animals and learning all about the animals. Doug from Zoo Tek was great with the students and he brought Ziggy his dog with him. Ziggy would walk around the room waiting for someone to pet her. She loved all the attention she got from the students and staff. Here are some pictures we took. Enjoy! We would like to have a crazy carpet party with our reading buddies on Friday, January 16th. The school has some crazy carpets but not enough for everyone. Therefore, we are asking for students to bring their own crazy carpet (ONLY crazy carpets please) if they have one. Please make sure your child's name is on the crazy carpet.
We will be having hot chocolate when we come in from outside. The kindergartens had a lot of fun dancing in the gym and counting down to the New Year. The kindergarten team had fun as well. Here are some pictures of the activities we did in our classroom and some pictures of our students dressed up. The students said dancing in the gym was one of their favourite activities. We would like to welcome Mrs. Fremeau from York University. She is a student teacher who will be coming most Mondays and Tuesdays from January to March. Mrs. Fremeau will complete a block in the month of April. She is very excited to be here!
Tomorrow (Tuesday, January 6th) we will be dressing up in our best/fanciest attire to bring in the New School Year in style!
Please have your child dress up tomorrow as we will be having a New Year's Celebration followed by special time in the gym! Students will still go outside, so please dress them appropriately. We are looking forward to an eventful day filled with friends, crafts, dancing, lots of laughter and good cheer because 2015 is finally here!!! |
